As the oak tree lies hidden in the depths of the acorn, so the wholeness of the human personality with its fullness of spiritual and creative capacities lies hidden in the depths of the human being silently waiting for its opportunity to emerge.

Ira Progoff

Though we have this natural potential, the awareness of who we truly are can become obscured by life events, expectations, or an over busy mind. Like the seed of the tree, we need the right conditions to flourish.

The Emerging Self Project aims to provide the right conditions through positive community-based book groups.

The core values of the project are:

Creating a safe place where there is respect and acceptance of diversity

There is no charge, a central aim of the project is accessibility.  However, each participant will need to purchase their own copy of the chosen book.

The project is optimistic about our innate ability to learn and find a deeper connection with our authentic self. The program is based on adult learning principles that have the potential to expand knowledge and self-awareness.

Freedom will be given to participants to explore at their own pace without pressure or expectation.

What are some of the common signs of the Emerging Self?

You feel energized when engaged in specific areas of your life

The life or story of someone captivates your interest

Something from a book or a movie stays on your mind

Feeling like life is a treadmill, or a version of Groundhog Day

Feelings of burnout or boredom

Having the underlying sense of being in the wrong job that is unfulfilling

New possibilities emerge in your mind when away on vacation, or in the natural environment

Note: Dissatisfaction or negativity can be positive, though it may not feel that way. It can be an indication that your true self is trying to emerge and make itself known

What I bring to this project is many years of working with people from all walks of life.  My core interest has always been in helping individuals to be true to themselves, this is so vital to our well-being.
